The Senior Engineering Manager will consist of Operations Excellence (Lean Methods), Project Management and Innovation Research. Serves as the engineering liaison or point person for distribution center current Projects, Operations Excellence, Future Innovation and road maps in Ecommerce, Retail and Wholesale channels.

In summary: Manage existing capital projects/budget, new research of new technology, vendor engagement, conducting business case project analysis, modeling, solution development, presentation creation, return on investment and delivering project innovation to the future of distribution center operations for the William Carter Company. This position reports to the Director of Engineering and will be based in Braselton, GA with occasional travel to other facilities.

Project Management 60%:

  • Manage all major operations implementation projects as PMO (Project Management Office)
  • Acts as Head DC Project Manager for all peak readiness meetings throughout the year.
  • Must have a strong understanding of DC equipment systems, projects management, scheduling, tracking, presentations and reporting up to C-level leadership.
  • Leading and developing large complex distribution center new or redesign operations projects from cradle to implementation.
  • Be a subject matter expert in the definition of viable operations concepts based on volume, equipment capacity, MHE needs and End to End distribution channel Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) business objectives.
  • Experience in distribution operations design including layout, operations improvement, material handling system (MHS) design, process design, project road mapping, End-to-End DC process flow, etc.
  • Manage cross functional team communication with all stakeholders during project work to ensure alignment.
  • Manages relationships and ensures timely updates to both internal stakeholders and external vendors.

Operations Excellence 20%:

  • Act as a liaison with DC personnel in resolving related systemic and/or operational issues. Use lean best method mindset to identify opportunities to streamline operations equipment and process improvements.
  • Provide lean engineering expertise to operations processes, and run Kaizen or task team events as needed.
  • Identify, quantify, and communicate opportunities for improvement in assigned Distribution Center. Coordinate and manage the implementation of improvements.
  • Ability to create and implement SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for new and existing processes.
  • Coordinate with leadership of supply chain and engineering to establish best practices. Maintain documentation of best practices and administer their execution. Support engineered labor standards and performance incentive program based on best practices and needed documentation.
  • Measure, interpret, and report on the performance of distribution operations. Provide interpretation and recommendations to DC management teams. Assist in building staffing and planning models to aid in DC management with new cost initiatives or new implementations. Partner with Senior Management Team to support defined KPI’s and metrics.

Innovation 20%:

  • Must have strong analytical skills, gather quote information, complete a return on investment (ROI) analysis including but not limited to cost per unit, cycle time, accuracy, speed, labor and P&L.
  • Keeps informed of technical changes and industry trends.
  • Research project scope, future design concepts and leading focus groups for shared understanding.
  • Builds relationships with various vendors to investigate potential road maps for the future of DC network equipment and process strategy.
  • Attend trade shows and vendor locations to explore new technology and innovation possibilities


Requirements

  • Must have a BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited university
  • 5+ years’ experience in distribution operations, warehousing, logistics or supply chain environment
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices including budgeting, cost estimating and ROI analysis.
  • Knowledge of order profiling and networking analysis.
  • 2+ years’ Warehouse Management System experience with experience in a WCS, SAP or Manhattan or equivalent background.
  • 3+ years’ with MHE conveyance demonstrating specific technical expertise, e.g., Data Modeling, DC Design Project Scoping, Operations Design Implementations, etc.
  • Experience in performing work in complex supply chains
  • Foster business case thinking and development within the project team and the ability to develop a business case for proposal to C-level executives.
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and internationally as needed. Some travel to corporate office in Atlanta. Estimated travel less than 20%.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint
  • Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD, MS Project & MS Visio
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Manhattan WMOS/LMOS preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities required
  • Strong writing skills with experience documenting design solutions and professionally communicating to all levels.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations to executives, managers and associates
  • Exceptional analytical skills and ability to pay attention to detail
  • Strong project management skills supported by project management tools and techniques
  • Must be self-motivated and a team player
  •  Occasional travel to other facilities and corporate offices
